Zmag, Ltd. is a pioneer in the field of magnet engineering and magnetic circuit design. The founder of the company commercialized the concept of using magnets to separate non-ferrous metals for recycling (eddy current separation), now used throughout the world in most every shredding and recycling facility. The founder also designed the magnetic circuit of the world’s first permanent magnet-based magnetic resonance imaging device (MRI) and was a contributor to Japan’s particle accelerator project. More recently, leveraging his understanding of the physical properties of magnets as well as expertise in developing both electromagnetic and permanent magnetic circuits, Zmag has introduced products for the aluminum industry. The first product line is the MagStir™, the world’s first and only stirrer for molten aluminum that utilizes a zPMC™ (Zmag Permanent Magnetic Circuit). The second product line is the Typhoon™ chip melter for molten aluminum furnaces, introduced in 2009. The Typhoon won the 2010 European Aluminium Award of Industrial Design & Engineering at Aluminium 2010 in Germany.
