The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is currently accepting applications for our Summer Professional Training Program internships as well as for certain seasonal technical staff positions.
Currently in our 54th season, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) was recently named “Company of the Year” by the Wall Street Journal and has earned a reputation for being one of the nation’s best classic theatre companies. In addition to the artistic work on our Main Stage and Outdoor Stage, we place an equal focus on education and training, and the company remains steadfast in its mission to train the classical theatre artists of tomorrow. STNJ is a true teaching theatre, and we take that responsibility and privilege very seriously. In the time that you will spend with us, we will provide you with tools and skills that will help you on your path forward, and aid you in creating your own ongoing, learning process; a perfect bridge from university training to professional experience. You will learn to strive for and often struggle for excellence, and to relish the exuberance that comes from achieving it.
From late May through August, the scenic campus of Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, transforms into a bustling and exciting theatre community as more than 300 actors, directors, designers, technicians and students, along with thousands of audience members, congregate at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. Dubbed the “University in the Forest”, Drew provides an idyllic setting for the exceptional artistic and educational work of The Shakespeare Theatre.
Training program participants are involved in every phase of the Main Stage and Outdoor Stage productions each summer, not to mention the nearly 20 late-night projects produced by members of the training program. Internships are offered in over 20 different technical, administrative, education, and artistic areas as vital precursors to professional work and status.
