Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) is a global theatrical force, known for vibrant productions that reflect Shakespeare's genius for intricate storytelling, musicality of language and depth of feeling for the human condition. As a leading international theater company, we are dedicated to producing extraordinary productions, unlocking Shakespeare's work for the next generation, and serving as Chicago's cultural ambassador through our World's Stage Series.

CST serves as the cultural anchor of historic Navy Pier on downtown Chicago's lakefront. Our annual producing season features as many as 15 plays and 600 performances. CST's current home contains two intimate theater spaces that are designed to accommodate a wide variety of staging needs and concepts. The 500-seat Courtyard Theater is a thrust stage, and the Upstairs Theater is a flexible black box studio that seats up to 200. As the scope of our season programming continues to grow, in the past year CST has also utilized facilities in partnership with the Chicago Park District, Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, Broadway in Chicago and The Hideout to accommodate our expanding production schedule, and our work has toured to New York, Australia, England, Germany and Scotland. With our large-scale productions, extended performance runs and year-round programming, CST provides more actor work-weeks than any other local nonprofit theater and last year employed more than 400 actors, directors, designers and professional artists.

Chicago Shakespeare's tradition of excellence has been recognized with a number of awards and honors, including the Regional Theater Tony Award, three Laurence Olivier Awards, and 62 total Joseph Jefferson Awards for our productions. CST received the 2011 British Consul General Award for the Theater's leadership in furthering cultural exchange with the U.K.
