Description

We must welcome and accommodate all artists and all patrons in our theatre buildings. This session will examine how theatres can address the need for accommodations for people along the gender spectrum. We will discuss the latest sociological research on this topic and explore ways in which theatre designers can make spaces to help serve everyone.

This session qualifies for 1.25 AIA/HSW/CEU credits

1. Define the terms used to describe the gender spectrum
2. Discover the challenges often faced by those who do not conform to the gender binary
3. Discuss current legislative status for all-gender washrooms
4. Explain key building code requirements for public toilet rooms
5. Illustrate examples of design to accommodate the gender spectrum for such spaces as public toilets and dressing rooms
6. Examine the effect on building planning as all-gender accommodations become fully addressed
