Seattle-based Dabbawalla Bags is the manufacturer of a whimsical crayon-colored collection of stylishly modern bags. The company evolved out of the need in the marketplace for suitably sized children’s backpacks and lunch bags made from eco-friendly and sustainable materials that are free of commercial hype.
Dabbawalla Bags is the inspiration of Susan Givens, an inveterate world traveler who lives in Seattle, WA. She has partnered with her sister, Carol Mack, a New York designer, and together they share a commitment to designing bags that are fun, functional and socially-responsible.
The company launched with Lunch Bags and Backpacks designed for pre-school and elementary age children. The insulating and washable bags continue to stand out among their peers with thoughtful, functional details including a sturdy grip handle, wide zipper openings, outside and inside pockets, and sustainable materials.
All Dabbawalla products are crafted from an innovative, biodegradable and 100% toxic-free material that cushions, protects and insulates. All materials used have been fully tested and exceed CPSIA standards for safety and are free of PVC, lead and Phthalates.
Meals and adventures are meant to be enjoyed and the fun starts when carrying a colorful Dabbawalla to school, on outings and even to work. In 2016 the company introduced the wildly popular Miss Kitty backpack and lunch bag. 2017 brings a new line of toddler harness bags in several favorite designs, and new ditty bags that coordinate with Dabbawalla backpacks.
The original Lunch Bag line (msrp $30.00) includes an ever expanding collection of conveniently sized tote bags for carrying lunch to school, use as a stroller bag, or for daily outings.
Dabbawalla Backpacks (msrp $42.00) are designed specifically to fit pre-school children. Details like a sturdy grip handle, wide zipper openings, outside and inside pockets and cushioned adjustable straps make this a must have item for busy kids on the go. Perfect for carrying lunch, toys and gear to school, daytrips or overnight adventures.
Dabbawalla Harness Backpacks (msrp $38.00) are designed for the smallest of adventurers with a comfortable sternum strap and a secure, detachable tether. Kids enjoy all the fun and function of an adorable Dabbawalla backpack while remaining close at hand.

With its cushioning material, protective hard shell sleeve and stretchy outside pocket, the Dabbawalla Tablet Case is perfect for packing up a tablet, earphones and chargers all in one handy case.
Dabbawalla Ditty Bags (msrp $10.00) are a fun and functional way to tote life’s little necessities in style. Perfect for pencils, snacks, toiletries and other portable odds and ends to help keep life more organized. Each Ditty Bag is individually created from the surplus materials used in our line of eco-friendly lunch bags and backpacks. 100% toxic free and degradable.
Dabbawalla Bags believes fun and function don’t have to compromise manufacturing ethics or environmental stewardship. All bags are sewn at a family-owned and operated facility in rural Taiwan, where workers receive benefits and fair trade wages. Each bag is individually crafted by a talented seamstress who takes great pride in her work to ensure that the finished product meets exacting standards.
The name Dabbawalla comes from India, where a complex system of delivery men known as Dabbawallas deliver home-cooked lunches daily to hundreds of thousands of office workers.
