After 10 years of growing success in Holland and the rest of Europe,
SNURK is coming to the US.
SNURK, which means 'snore' in Dutch, is the maker of unique and creative bedding, throw pillows and horizontal wear based on photographic prints. Our goal is to bring fun, personality AND style to horizontal life. Check us out; you'll see what we mean.
Here's the quick story...
SNURK came to life in Amsterdam in 2007 when Peggy van Neer and her partner Erik van Loo had the idea of creating bedding with photographic prints that were beautifully designed and highly realistic. The initial offering grew from one duvet cover with a print of cardboard boxes to the current range of over a 100 products in three categories. SNURK has been successful across Europe with boutique design stores and high-end retailers and is excited to make a dedicated effort in the US in 2017.
Our goals and motivation.
SNURK's products stand out for their high-quality cotton, unique photographic prints and clean designs. "We aim for the best of the best in every possible aspect," explains co-founder Peggy van Neer. This is visible and tangible: the fabric is strong, yet soft and the designs are one of a kind.
Every print on the bedding originated from an idea of Van Neer. "I could never really find a duvet cover to my taste," she explains, "bedding prints normally include flowers or stripes. A bit boring, I thought." SNURK's designs are mainly white and always serene and playful. "The designs we make for kids are like that as well. Most designs for kids are busy and filled up with bright colors." SNURK's approach is different. "We take children more seriously by depicting their dreams in a more mature way. To become an astronaut or a ballerina, for example. Plus our children's designs are meant to fit into a stylish home."
All prints involve more work than you can imagine. "For every design we conduct a lot of research. We are looking for collaborations to reach the highest attainable standard by working with excellent partners." The ballerina design for instance, was made with help from the the Dutch National Ballet. "They helped me select a tutu, and a ballerina from the ballet posed for the photographic print." The same is true for the astronaut print, which is an actual suit from the Space Museum in Holland.
The magic of production.
Printing a full bed sheet in rich-detail and warm colors has never been easy, but Peggy found a kindred soul in Portugal who was up for the challenge. "I like to work with mad geniuses. People who foremost display real passion and dedication for their work. People who like a challenge, to make the impossible possible. We found that in Portugal. We use a so-called print screen. That's a rather old fashioned printing method. Many don't understand why we go to this trouble but it provides us with the most beautiful results".
SNURK in the US.
SNURK in the US is run by Martyntje and Chris Kyle, long-time friends of founders Peggy and Erik. They have been witnesses to their success and talents since the start. They have also had a house full of SNURK products for many years, have been asked about it endlessly, and are excited to introduce it to the US market.
