At this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, German economist Klaus Schwab suggested that we are on the cusp of a Fourth Industrial Revolution that will “fundamentally change the way we work and live in the coming decades.” He argues that emerging technologies and rapid digitization will lead to a blurring of lines between our physical, digital and biological spheres.
Though debate on this theory has just begun, we cannot discount the impact that technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, Biotechnology, and The Internet of Things will have on our lives. These breakthroughs, and many others, will influence how we choose to live, work, and participate in a completely connected world.
So what will this future mean for Design? How will our methods of communication and problem solving abilities change? What are the possibilities for the human creative process when machine assisted?
