Profile

A native southerner and graduate of the College of Design at North Carolina State University, Ed Roberts is a writer, speaker and award-winning creative lead at ElectriCities who has worked on both the client and agency sides of the business for more than 20 years. He is a leading expert at constructing high-performing corporate teams. Managing the growth of in-house departments as well as those who contribute to them has become Ed’s professional passion. Ed enjoys exploring design, creativity and business strategy and writes extensively about these topics as they relate to in-house management for HOW magazine, HOW’s In-house Designer Blog and The Creative Group Blog. He has interviewed some of the industry’s most forward-thinking leaders—including Pentagram Partner Michael Bierut, Typographer Gail Anderson, author Steven Heller, Garden and Gun magazine Art Director Marshall Mckinney, Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv Partner Sagi Haviv as well as the in-house team at Bloomberg Businessweek with Creative Director Richard Turley. Ed judged HOW’s 2015 In-house Design Awards with Ashleigh Axios and Alex Center. He serves on the IHAF Board of Directors and is a programming partner for the HOW Interactive Design Conference series. He developed the In-house Management Certification program for HOWU and taught Creative Strategy & the Business of Design, Certificate in Creative Business Entrepreneurship and Supercharge Your In-house Team. Ed accepted the Mosaic Award from the American Advertising Federation for best multiethnic student program for an internship program developed for diverse high school students.
