twenty/twenty beauty, a vision health-driven brand created by Columbia-trained board-certified ophthalmologist Diane Hilal-Campo, MD, today announced the launch of its first products on its website, trytwentytwenty.com. twenty/twenty beauty formulas were carefully developed and thoroughly tested to ensure they’re as effective as they are comfortable on sensitive, easily irritated eyes. The first two products in the collection, an innovative hygiene spray that cleanses lids, lashes and skin and a clean, hormone-free growth serum for lashes and brows, will be available June 7, 2021. More products from the twenty/twenty beauty collection will launch throughout the summer, including creamy eyeshadow sticks and a liquid eyeliner that promotes longer-looking lashes.
After spending decades treating female patients struggling with dry eye and other painful conditions caused by makeup and beauty treatments, Dr. Hilal-Campo was inspired to start her own brand of eye-friendly formulas, twenty/twenty beauty. She wanted to create a line of products that are not only safe for contact lens wearers and ophthalmologist tested, but also free of commonly-used ingredients that are notoriously harmful to eye health, such as glitter, mica, prostaglandins, acetyl hexapeptide-3, and others.
“The scary reality is that the ingredients in many of your favorite eye makeup and lash treatment formulas — and the way you might apply them — can be quite harmful to the eyes,” says twenty/twenty beauty founder Dr. Diane Hilal-Campo. “My fellow ophthalmology colleagues and I have all witnessed a steadily increasing surge of women struggling with dry eye disease, which we’ve anecdotally found to be caused by lifelong eye makeup use. That’s why I decided to develop the world’s first eye-care-forward beauty line, helping to enhance your eyes’ natural beauty while supporting vision health.” Each product has undergone rigorous clinical testing to ensure they don’t disrupt, but rather support, the delicate ecosystem of the eye.
twenty/twenty beauty products are designed to be used daily, so you can highlight one of your best features while nourishing ingredients help address dry eye symptoms. The line will debut with two such formulas: Get Growing Lash & Brow Serum ($36) is formulated to promote lashes and brows that look thicker, darker, and healthier with a rich cocktail of natural oils, including castor oil. In addition to being used by many as a DIY hair treatment, this ingredient has historically been used by ophthalmologists to treat dry eye disease. Get Growing is free of prostaglandins and other synthetic hormones, which can cause irritation and fat atrophy around the eye. Easy on the Eyes Daily Hygiene Facial Spray ($42) is a soothing mist designed to be sprayed on the whole face, including lids and lashes, to effectively cleanse while helping to soothe skin. The formula’s star ingredient, hypochlorous acid, is an ophthalmologist favorite for purifying the eye area. It’s also known for fighting acne-causing bacteria and quelling redness.
About Dr. Diane Hilal-Campo:
Dr. Diane Hilal-Campo is the founder of twenty/twenty and a board-certified ophthalmologist in private practice in Oakland, NJ, where she has been diagnosing and treating eye conditions for 25 years. She is renowned for her expertise in correcting a wide range of disorders of the eye, both medically and surgically.
Medicine has been a part of Dr. Hilal-Campo’s life since she was a child. Her father, Dr. Sadek Hilal, was a Columbia-trained radiologist and a pioneer in the field of imaging science. She first became passionate about eye care when she was diagnosed with nearsightedness by Dr. Stephen Trokel, an inventor of Lasik, at a very young age. “When I looked through my new glasses and saw how beautiful the trees were, how beautiful the world was, it changed my life,” recalls Dr. Hilal-Campo. All these factors, combined with her natural dexterity with fine needlepoint work, made ophthalmology a logical career path.
Dr. Hilal-Campo graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Columbia University as a member of the institution’s first fully co-educational class. After receiving her MD from Columbia, she completed her internship in internal medicine there, then finished her residency in ophthalmology at New York City’s Mount Sinai Medical Center. She is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
In addition to her work at her New Jersey practice, Dr. Hilal-Campo stays active in the medical community via memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. She is also a founding member of a local organization for female ophthalmologists in New Jersey. When time allows, Dr. Hilal-Campo is honored to be able to use her expertise to help support underserved communities around the world. She has participated in several medical mission trips to India and countries in Africa to perform cataract surgery on those in need.
Dr. Hilal-Campo’s beauty brand, twenty/twenty, debuted in 2021. Twenty/twenty is a line of eye-friendly formulas designed to enhance the eyes’ natural beauty without causing irritation or sensitivity. Each product has undergone rigorous clinical testing to ensure they don’t disrupt, but rather support, the delicate ecosystem of the eye. The entirety of the twenty/twenty collection is ophthalmologist-tested and approved, in addition to being safe for contact lens wearers.
