Mission

“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band’s mission is to perform music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Founded in 1798 by an Act of Congress, the Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization.

Congratulations are in order! This week, Master Sergeant Steven Williams auditioned for and won "The President's Own" United States Marine Band’s Drum Major position.

"Cyrus the Great" bests "Semper Fidelis" in March Mania clash of kings

In a surprising final outcome for Sousa’s March Mania 2024, Karl King’s “Cyrus the Great” conquered John Philip Sousa’s “Semper Fidelis,” the official march of the Marine Corps, by a score of 7,002 to 4,775. The United States Marine Band commemorated the King of Persia’s victory over the March King with a live performance of the piece on March 29, 2024, at John Philip Sousa Band Hall in Washington, D.C.

2024 Chamber Music Series Concludes April 7

The final concert of the 2024 Chamber Music Series will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 7 with a program including several new works that feature the strings and highlight double bass in jazz and improv as well as traditional German chamber music. Coordinated by bassist Staff Sgt. Kevin Thompson, the performance will take place in John Philip Sousa Band Hall, online and in person at the Marine Barracks Annex in southeast Washington, D.C.
