  • Ropes Courses Incorporated (RCI) grew out of a budding passion for adventure products and a dedication to continuous innovation. After his first operation of a zip line course in 1982, owner Jim Liggett recognized a developing interest in the world of adventure. With unwavering drive and an appetite for discovery, he established RCI in 1989. A love for ropes courses and zip line adventure products in the 1980’s has matured into a career as well as thriving business that Liggett navigates with his wife, Michelle.

The company, based in Allegan, Michigan, currently employs over 100 highly qualified people to aid with design, engineering, manufacturing, installation, and operation of our many amusement attractions. RCI strives to revolutionize the domain of adventure products by constantly experimenting with new design concepts and technologies. In 2017, RCI expanded its product line and acquired Colorado-based company, Amaze’n Mazes, as well as partnering with New Zealand-based company, Clip ‘n Climb®, to further create the ideal adventure space. RCI proudly assumed the role of North American manufacturer of the climbing structures and gained distribution responsibilities within North and South America. These new relationships have allowed RCI to build upon its offering of interactive, engaging attractions that keep all ages thoroughly entertained.

Amaze’n Mazes™ are ideal for facilities in need of durable, safe, customizable, year-round entertainment with little, to no maintenance or labor. The maze challenges participants to fine-tune their navigation skills, while they compete with others to exit the attraction in the fastest time possible.

Clip ‘n Climb® climbing walls are popular additions for family entertainment centers, adventure parks, camps and various other active facilities. The walls themselves have the potential to stand 34ft (10.4m) tall and feature a range of vibrant colors, designs and difficulty levels. Clip ‘n Climb® walls allow businesses to maximize their space while complementing the other attractions they offer.

RCI has been fortunate to install Sky Trail® amusement attractions in over 33 countries, including a 2 Level Sky Trail® with 125 foot, 180° curved Sky Rail™ and stand-alone Sky Tykes® with Sky Rail™ for the historic Philadelphia Zoo in Philadelphia, PA. Carnival Cruise Line’s new ship, Panorama, will also welcome a cheery white, blue and yellow Sky Trail® that stands at 31 feet tall (9.44m) when it sets sail in late 2019.

Continuing their efforts in global expansion, RCI has also been busy collaborating with new potential distributors, Climb Korea Co., Ltd and Zipline Korea, Inc. as each company works to complete the year-long trial period required of them before official distributor status can be granted. The two adventure companies currently have one and three projects planned for 2019, respectively.

To facilitate ever-changing business opportunities, RCI has diversified its product portfolio by working to diversify its product portfolio and now has over 300 combinations of Sky Trail elements being developed regularly to meet client demands. As well as this, all of RCI’s products can be custom themed with over 30 different color options to choose from, including black light to ensure its attractions stand out. Expanding the products offered even more, RCI is in the process of introducing 2 additional options for this year that include an unharnessed net play attraction as well as an expansive entertainment hub consisting of Sky Trail®, multiple Sky Rails™, Clip ’n Climb® climbing walls, Sky Tykes® and an observation deck at the very top of the larger Sky Trail®.

The unharnessed play attraction is located next to the other components and is connected by way of a stairwell that also allows guests to access the upper observation deck. There are no height or weight requirements that must be met prior to entrance and participants simply either climb up the net elevator present alongside one of the raised towers or use the aforementioned stairwell that is butted up against the Sky Trail®. Once at the top, participants of all ages can climb and make their way through 5 interconnected bridges with friends or family. Individuals are able to let their imaginations run wild with different pathways open for exploration and the option to move freely unharnessed. When participants wish to exit, they can choose to slide down one of the 2 slides available or travel over to the stairwell where they may have previously entered. More information on these new products and all other corresponding details will be released in the near future.

As Frontrunners in the amusement attractions industry, RCI is always working to achieve the highest level of safety and innovation in each of their products. RCI adapts to this by continuing to set the bar with every adventure product that is developed. Whether it is Sky Trail®, Sky Rail™, Sky Tykes®, Clip ‘n Climb® climbing walls or Amaze’n Mazes™, clients can rest assured they are getting a high-level product that follows leading safety standards and upholds key patents.

  • Allegan, Mich. November 5, 2019 —  For the 16th year in a row, RCI Adventure Products, formerly known as Ropes Courses Incorporated (RCI), will be in attendance at the IAAPA Expo held in Orlando, Florida from November 19-22. During the four day long show, the newly refreshed adventure attractions leader will be stationed inside of booth 5730 with an entire crew of sales professionals and authorized distributors present to speak with attendees. Also, in line with past years, RCI will be showcasing a fully constructed Sky Trail® aerial attraction consisting of a few new elements along with an innovative multi-activity Clip ‘n Climb® configuration.

Already commonly referred to as ‘RCI’ for years, the major manufacturer of family-friendly attractions officially made the decision to move forward with the new name, RCI Adventure Products, to better reflect product expansion that has occurred in recent years. It is this growth and progress that ultimately elevated RCI beyond its often limiting ‘ropes courses’ persona.

“This company was founded 30 years ago with the name ‘Ropes Courses Incorporated’ but since then, we have grown tremendously and it felt like the right time to transition into a new era of ourselves,” comments Jim Liggett, president and founder of RCI. “The new name makes it clear that we offer more than just one product and it gives us the space we need to grow even more.”

The updated brand identity won’t be the only new development for RCI at this year’s IAAPA show as they will also be premiering two innovative products: Adventure Trail and the Destination series, a product line consisting of 3 distinct models. Adventure Trail is RCI’s first unharnessed netplay offering that features no participant weight or height requirement prior to entrance. All ages and abilities are encouraged to climb up Adventure Trail’s net ‘elevator’ and make their way, in whatever direction they’d like, through the interconnected bridges, towers and exit slides.

The Destination series, on the other hand, is made up of 3 large-scale individual entertainment hubs that each vary in their square footage and overall arrangement. Each model contains 5 core attractions for participants to interact with: a Sky Trail® with multiple Sky Rails™, Clip ‘n Climb® climbing activities, Adventure Trail netplay and a Sky Tykes®. These unique hands-on spaces were designed for businesses that market to a broad range of guests and witness high foot traffic.

“We are so proud to welcome both Adventure Trail and the Destination series to our product family as they each offer aspects not previously available through us,” says Jon Weston, chief sales officer for RCI. “These new additions further illustrate our evolvement as a company and we’re thrilled to be able to offer clients more expansive entertainment options.”

In booth 5730 attendees will be able to discuss ways that RCI attractions can fit in their space with RCI sales personnel, celebrate the brand launch with prize giveaways, and experience the fun first-hand. A full-scale Sky Trail® aerial attraction will be present as well as the new Clip ‘n Climb® ‘Delta’ that utilizes a triangular structure on top to stabilize 3 typically non-free standing activities with the flexibility to also have another challenge placed in the middle. • Natural Bridge Caverns, a family-owned and operated destination primarily focused on the preservation of the caverns through tours as well as other exploration-related activities on the side, announced on October 3rd that they would be replacing their original Sky Trail® “Canopy” Explorer and “Canopy Zip-line” with a new expansive “Twisted Trails Sky Adventure Course”.

RCI will again be involved with the installation and can’t wait to see how visitors to Natural Bridge Caverns react! In short, here is all that will be added to the space in late November of this year:

    • 8 pole, 4-level Sky Trail® complete with a whopping 7 Sky Rails™, the most included on an outdoor Sky Trail® globally speaking
    • Sky Tykes® perfect for participants 4′ or under
    • 4 Clip ‘n Climb® climbing challenges including Jungle Gym, Twister, Face-to-Face and Astroballs

Melody Goeken, writer for woodlandsonline.com quoted Co-owner and Vice President of Natural Bridge Caverns Travis Wuest. “These courses offer our guests the opportunity to do something physical, to challenge themselves and, in some cases, overcome their fears. It’s an adventure for all ages,” said Wuest.
