General Curator
Denver Zoo

Profile

Emily Insalaco leads the animal care team as General Curator at Denver Zoo. She started her career working with marine mammals at the Aquarium of Niagara in Niagara Falls, NY. During her time in NY, she was also a wildlife rehabilitator, taught high school science, and worked with small and large mammals and birds of prey at wildlife centers in New York State. She later joined Natural Encounters, Inc., where she performed in free flight birds shows and became part of the company’s behavior consulting team. It was on one of these consulting contracts that she fell in love with Denver and Denver Zoo, and has been there ever since, starting as their first Curator of Behavioral Husbandry, and later also leading the Animal Ambassadors team. When she isn’t working, she is exploring beautiful Colorado and the Rocky Mountain range with her husband and 8 year old son.
