Kenneth Maguire is the Director of Guest Experience Operations for the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In this position, Kenneth is responsible for overseeing the coordination of the aquarium’s daily operations including Public Programming, General Admission, Member Admission, Volunteer Docent Programs, Guest Experience training and development, Fee based programs, and other operational areas. He joined the aquarium in high school, through the Junior Volunteer Guide program. He began his employment in 1988 as an Entrance Host, welcoming guests into the then 3 ½ year old institution. Thirty-three years later, he enjoys a special connection with his staff, having many former staff return to introduce their children to their former boss
During his thirty-three years at the aquarium, Kenneth spent seven of those years also serving as a Fire Fighter/EMT with the Seaside, California Fire Department, often coming to work at the aquarium directly from his fire shift. He credits much of his leadership style to his father, who was an officer in the United States Army for twenty-six years, and the training and experience gained through achieving his Eagle Scout, through the Boys Scouts of America.
Kenneth is currently an active member and former presenter of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) where he serves as the Chair for the IAAPA Global Zoo & Aquarium Committee, and he also sits in the IAAPA Membership Committee and IAAPA Program Planning Committee. He is also a former member of the International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection (IFCPP), and past Presenting Host of the International Aquarium Visitor Operations Conference (IAVOC).
Kenneth resides in Carmel, California, with his wife, five children and five grandchildren. When not wrangling aquarium guests or herding off-spring, he can be found with family… hiking, camping, coaching youth baseball and soccer or attending a “grown up” sporting event.
