SafetyBeltSafe U.S.A.–Protecting kids in traffic crashes
SafetyBeltSafe U.S.A., the national nonprofit solely focused on child passenger safety, aims to reduce deaths and injuries of children in traffic crashes through the correct, consistent use of safety seats and safety belts. Founded in 1980, SBS USA offers professional training for those in health care, safety, law enforcement, community, and social services as well as developing resources and educational materials focused on best practice principles. Since 1980, SBS USA has participated in the development of both technical and program aspects of the field, including precipitating major changes in legislation and national regulation, such as mandating rear-seat shoulder-lap belts in vehicles in 1989 and saving mandatory manual locking belts in 2012. Pediatricians have been close partners since our founding. SafetyBeltSafe U.S.A. provides accurate information on "best practice," including help for safe transportation of children with complex special needs. Our Safe Ride Helplines, in English and Spanish, 800/745-SAFE and 800/747-SANO, and www.carseat.org are national resources for a personal consultation for the public and professionals.
