Welcome to Penn Medicine Rehabilitation

Penn Medicine Rehabilitation (formerly known as the Penn Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine) is an inpatient unit of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Patients typically come to us after a stay at an acute care hospital. They may have lost strength or function and need intense therapy to help restore it.

Our patients have one or more conditions requiring intensive rehabilitation care and participate in therapy for 15 hours every week – usually three hours a day, five days a week. Penn Medicine Rehabilitation has experience helping medically complex patients recover from injuries and illnesses such as:

  • Amputee
  • Brain Injury
  • Cardiovascular
  • Orthopedic Rehabilitation
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Stroke
  • Transplants

Our patients have access to the world-class care and specialized services available at Penn Medicine and outpatient care at one of 26 Penn Therapy & Fitness locations in the Philadelphia and New Jersey region.
