  • Toyota Motor North America recently celebrated the grand opening of the Toyota Experience Center (TEC), Toyota’s first and only comprehensive visitor attraction in North America. At the TEC, team members and their guests learn about Toyota's past, present and future through a variety of interactive exhibits and artful displays, all of which honor the company’s most important asset – its people.

Visitors begin their journey with a look into the Customer Experience, where Toyota representatives are in daily contact with their customers. The History and Heritage Gallery chronicles the arrival and early history of Toyota in North America, featuring 10 of the company’s classic/innovative historic cars and iconic images of early advertising. Next comes the Here and Now Gallery, showcasing current production models and the latest print and digital ads. Beyond this exhibit space, the Manufacturing Experience and Sales Experience immerse visitors in Toyota’s manufacturing, sales and “continuous improvement”culture.

The Innovation Space displays a myriad of Toyota’s technical advances and technology “firsts,” while celebrating the team members responsible for them. The Mobility Workshop is a working laboratory for robotics aimed at helping people, especially those with limited mobility or special needs, with a variety of tasks. It also gives them a sense of pride by reinforcing the notion that Toyota Motor North America cares as much about its people as it does about its products.” JRA team members Jason Hedges, Bjorn Kemper, and Rob Morgan in the History and Heritage Gallery. [/caption] According to TEC curator Cindy Knight: “We wanted to create a space that would not only educate team members about the past, present and future of Toyota in North America, but also hopefully inspire them to see the part each of them plays in our continuing story.” Toyota Experience Center design Innovation Workshop[/caption]

  • The National Comedy Center was named one of TIME’s “World’s Greatest Places” in the publication’s September 2, 2019 cover story, now published online and on newsstands tomorrow. The National Comedy Center was selected as one of only “100 new and newly noteworthy destinations to experience right now” and one of only nine attractions to visit in the United States.

    Breaking New Ground

TIME Magazine September 2, 2019 Cover[/caption] This annual TIME list—culled from editor and expert nominations from around the world—recognizes 100 destinations that are breaking new ground, leading industry trends and offering guests an experience that’s unlike any other. As the TIME’s staff describes the list: “How does one measure the greatness of a place – in miles covered, dollars spent, or visitors captivated? Such metrics can play a part, but also important is something that many travelers aspire to experience: the sense that one has stumbled upon the extraordinary.” National Comedy Center in TIME’s ‘World’s Greatest Places of 2019’ – Click here

    A Destination for Laughter

“We are proud that the National Comedy Center has been selected by TIME – in a worldwide context – as a destination to experience right now,” said Journey Gunderson, National Comedy Center Executive Director. “We set out to build a cultural institution that would do justice to the incredible artists and bodies of work it celebrates, and this global distinction affirms that it does. This honor also validates what our guests tell us every day – that the National Comedy Center is a one-of-a-kind experience for anyone who loves to laugh. We look forward to welcoming visitors from around the world to Jamestown, New York, as we present the art form of comedy in our state-of-the-art museum.” TIME solicited nominations across a variety of categories—such as museums, parks, bars, restaurants, theme parks, cruises and hotels—from its editors and correspondents around the world as well as dozens of industry experts. Then the publication evaluated each one based on key factors, including quality, originality, innovation, sustainability and influence. JRA provided master planning, design, project management, and art direction for the highly acclaimed attraction. “We are so happy that the National Comedy Center continues to be recognized on a global basis for its innovative and engaging guest experience," said JRA Vice President, Shawn McCoy.  "From the very beginning of the project, the museum’s leaders were focused on creating something truly special – that would both honor the comedic arts and turn the city of Jamestown into a destination.  By all accounts, it seems that their mission has been accomplished.”

    For the Love of Comedy

The National Comedy Center was selected last month by People Magazine as one of the “100 Reasons to Love America.” Earlier this year, it was voted a “Best New Attraction” by USA Today readers, ranking #2 out of 20 new attractions and selected as the #1 museum and #1 ticketed attraction in the country. This past March, the U.S. Congress designated the National Comedy Center as the United States’ official cultural institution dedicated to presenting the vital story of comedy and preserving its heritage for future generations. Condé Nast Traveler called the Comedy Center “One of the best museums in the country.” Visitors from all 50 states and nine countries have given the Center a rare 5/5 rating on TripAdvisor, ranking among the highest in the attraction and tourism industry.

  • “They’ve got a Golden Ticket!” Kennywood and Morey’s Piers received top honors at the 2019 Golden Ticket Awards, presented by Amusement Today. The Awards, which recognize the “Best of the Best” across the amusement industry, are nominated and voted upon by a panel of approximately 500 experienced park enthusiasts from around the world. This year’s Awards Weekend was co-hosted by Silverwood Theme Park and Rocky Mountain Construction in Athol, Idaho, USA. Kennywood received “Best New Roller Coaster of 2019” for Steel Curtain, the star attraction of the park’s new Steelers Country zone. With its 4,000 feet of steel track, 75 mile per hour speed, and nine inversions, the S&S Sansei coaster breaks multiple records and has been thrilling audiences since its opening. In addition to providing master planning and design for Steelers Country, JRA provided car theming and environmental graphics for Steel Curtain.

Golden Ticket Awards JRA “The Steel Curtain was one of the most eagerly anticipated attractions of 2019. It’s fantastic that it has lived up to every bit of its hype,” said Tim Baldwin, Golden Ticket Communications Coordinator, Amusement Today. “This ride goes way beyond records; it’s just great. The layout is creative and original and smooth. All the inversions are so fluid, you float through them effortlessly. The cheers from the riders at the end of the ride are the real testimony — it’s a blast! What a spectacular ride that fans are going to rave about for decades.” “It’s hard to put into words what a thrill it is to see Steel Curtain be voted Best New Coaster,” added Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas. “Every year, the biggest and best parks in the world compete to deliver the best coaster of the year, so to be able to say we’re bringing that title home to Southwestern Pennsylvania is incredibly rewarding.” This year, Morey’s Piers is celebrating its 50th anniversary – the perfect time to honor the New Jersey amusement park with the Golden Ticket Award for Park of the Year. According to Amusement Today, “the Publisher’s Pick Golden Ticket Award recognizes a park that has risen to the challenge in recent years and earned industry recognition. They’ve been a leader, an innovator, and their accomplishments have made them an inspiration to the industry-at-large.”

Golden Ticket Awards JRA JRA recently collaborated with Morey’s Piers on the coaster and station theming of Runaway Tram, the park’s newest coaster. The family-friendly coaster pays homage to the Wildwood Sightseer Tramcar, an icon of the Wildwood Boardwalk for 70 years. Amusement Today pointed to the ride as one of the many ways the Moreys are innovating to keep their parks fresh and their guests coming back. “Morey’s Piers has not only helped define the city of Wildwood, but it’s a perfect example of what summer memories are all about,” said Baldwin. “The leadership there is not content to be average. Or even good. That team is demonstrating the steps to greatness. Clean, fun, creative and full of heart — it’s the perfect mix for a vacation destination or just a day off. The success of Morey’s Piers for 50 years should not be a surprise. It’s family business at its best.”

“We’ve known the Moreys for decades, so we couldn’t be happier for them to receive a Golden Ticket Award for their 50th Anniversary season,” said JRA Owner and Chief Executive officer, Keith James. “We’re also thrilled at the recognition that Kennywood and Steel Curtain are receiving, including all of the positive guest feedback. Congratulations to both parks on this fabulous honor.”
