King-Devick Test in association with Mayo Clinic (K-D Test), is an easy-to-administer remove-from-play test performed on the sidelines of sporting events to quickly and objectively aid in the detection of concussions in athletes.
K-D Test evaluates eye movements, attention, concentration, speech, and other correlates of sub-optimal brain function. K-D Test is a two-minute test that requires an athlete to read single digit numbers displayed on a tablet or computer. After suspected head trauma, the athlete takes the test and if the time needed to complete the test is worse than the athlete’s baseline score or if there are any other signs or symptoms of concussion, the athlete should be removed from play and evaluated by a licensed professional.
