Handi-Racker was developed for a customer who requested my help. A young man came into my gun shop and was having difficulty operating his pistol. He wanted me to weld or bolt some tabs on the back of the slide of his gun and make a little T handle that he could put in his pocket after he racked the slide. I told him that I didn’t want to weld or modify his gun but to come back in a couple of weeks and I will have an answer for him.
A couple of weeks later, I handed him the first Handi-Racker. He used it and his face lit up! He reached into his pocket and handed me a $20 bill. I refused his payment and told him that I did it to help him and I was happy to do it.
A few days later I started to think that several other people may have the same issue. I also realized there were lots of other uses, like Clearing Jams, Loading, Unloading, Disassembly, and more. Several nights of not sleeping went by. I started doing some searches on the internet and nothing like this came up. I spent many nights doing patent searches, no results. I talked with my wife and we decided to take a gamble and applied for a patent.
The first Handi-Racker was made for a little pocket pistol. Specifically, the Kel-Tec P3AT 380. I modified it to fit the Ruger LCP 380 and had a few made. I sold some locally and on Ebay. Requests started coming in for other models. Before I knew it there were 3, 4, then 5 to choose from. Small, Medium, Large, XL and one for the Beretta’s and Clones that have a tapered muzzle and exposed barrel.
January of 2014, Handi-Racker debuted at SHOT Show and we started getting serious about a dealer network. By January of 2015 we had a dealer network of 200 dealers and Cabela’s had placed it in all their retail outlets and online. When SHOT Show 2016 came, we introduced our new lineup to the nearly 300 dealers.
We combined the Small and Medium unit to create the Handi-Racker 2 or HR2 Compact unit, and merged the Large and XL Handi-Racker to make the HR2 Full Sized unit. Now two Handi-Rackers will fit 95% of the pistols on the market. The Beretta unit remains as the third unit in the lineup.
The new line has the same great Manufacturers Suggested Retail Pricing of $29.99 operates more guns per unit. Handi-Racker has one of the lowest Dealer buy in programs. A demonstration video can be seen at www.handiracker.com . Dealer inquires can be handled at www.handiracker.com/inquiries.html.
By the time the next January 2017 rolled around we had molds made our first injected Handi-Rackers went to Vegas. Because of the investment into the molds we were able to lower the MSRP to $19.99 a 33% decrease on the same great tool. We went with Safety Green for the Compact units and Safety Orange for the Full sized units. There are also ridges on the edge to help pick up the Handi-Racker
At that time we also introduced the Range-Racker it implements all 5 cuts in one unit with an optional base. The Range-Racker can be used like the Handi-Racker or mounted to a solid object or fixed to the base.
We are now seeing other product out there. In order to stay away from patent infringement the others have to sweep the muzzle past part of their device, and no one clears jams like the Real Handi-Racker.
