My son Connor had several passions in his life: motorcycles, guns and flying would be at the top of his list. On August 3, 2017 he died while riding on Spearfish Canyon Road in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Of course, losing a child is a challenge that can’t be imagined and the search for answers will, most likely, never be answered, but there are some things that have helped ease the pain. As I searched through Connor’s belongings, I found a 1911 project he had been working on. Connor had not skimped as he carefully built this 45 Caliber beauty, but my skills were not up to the task of finishing it. I searched several local gunsmiths to finish the project but no one was interested. Even the renown Les Baer, from my hometown LeClaire, Iowa, would not talk with me. I then was introduced to Josh Wallace with Ace Precision Firearms. Josh understood how important it was to finish my son’s 1911. Josh went over and above to build a beautiful firearm that shoots flawlessly and looks amazing. I am certain Connor would approve right down to having his name laser engraved on the slide. Josh had called me awhile back, he was wanting a thumb print to engrave a dog tag for a friend of his, our funeral home handled the services. After engraving the dog tag, he brought me a couple of samples and I started showing my families. First of all the dog tags sell them self and the charge that Josh came up with was over $100 less than the company I was using. Plus his turn around time and courtesy to the families that I send his way is always professional. Since we started the dog tags we’ve also started having other things engraved. As always the quality of the products are amazing and every family cherishes his products.
