 Press Releases

  • Leamington, ON (March 25th, 2018) – John Ketler, General Manager at NatureFresh™ Farms, is excited to announce the newest NatureFresh™ Farms greenhouse expansion taking place in Leamington, ON later this year. Construction of a new 32-acre greenhouse facility will commence in the summer of 2018, with production scheduled to begin in 2019. This facility will house a range of Tomato varieties to be grown using supplemental lighting, allowing for year-round production of fresh, Canadian-grown Tomatoes!

With construction beginning in the summer of 2018, NatureFresh™ Farms will further increase its presence within the Tomato category by 2019. In this new facility, there will be a variety of Tomato crops being grown, including TOMZ® Snacking Tomatoes, Tomatoes-on-the-Vine, and Beefsteak Tomatoes. A greater supply of Canadian-grown Tomatoes produced year-round will ensure that NatureFresh™ Farms successfully meets increased market demands within the Tomato category with consistently fresh and high-quality products.

NatureFresh™ Farms expanded its greenhouse production into the United States in 2015 with the construction of a 45-acre facility in Delta, OH. In Ohio, NatureFresh™ Farms also grows TOMZ® Snacking Tomatoes, Tomatoes-on-the-Vine, and Beefsteak Tomatoes, but these crops are grown using High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) lighting, allowing year-round availability of Ohio-grown Tomatoes. With supplemental lighting and other innovations being launched in the new facility, the Leamington, ON greenhouse will be equipped with the same state-of-the-art growing technologies as seen in Ohio. Matt Quiring, Executive Retail Sales Accounts Manager at NatureFresh™ Farms, is expecting great success from the expansion: “The first full growing season in our Ohio greenhouse has been very successful so far, so with the same technology that we use in Ohio being implemented in our new Leamington greenhouse, we expect similar success. We should see higher production, greater efficiency in the growing process, and consistently high-quality products from our new Canadian greenhouse.”

NatureFresh™ Farms continues to grow its acreage with this exciting Canadian expansion. Once construction is complete on the new facility, NatureFresh™ Farms will be growing flavorful, high quality Tomatoes across over 90 acres of greenhouses! With exciting times ahead, the NatureFresh™ Farms team is looking forward to further development as a leader within the industry.

  • Leamington, ON (April 20th, 2018) – With a fresh growing season underway, John Ketler, the General Manager at NatureFresh™ Farms, along with the entire NatureFresh™ Farms team, is looking forward to what is projected to be an extremely successful year for organic produce. With an increased focus on growing using certified organic methods and processes, consumers should expect to see a strong increase in organically-grown NatureFresh™ Farms produce hitting grocery store shelves starting in April 2018.

NatureFresh™ Farms expanded its organic acreage in Leamington, ON from 9 acres to 15 acres at the end of 2017. As the 2018 growing season is kicking into high gear, the expert growers at NatureFresh™ Farms predict high yield and excellent quality fruit from their organic crops. Isaac Braun, the head Organic Grower at NatureFresh™ Farms, is excited to see the plants he oversees performing so well: “With a greater focus being given to our organic crops moving forward, we are expecting improved crop management that will result in better quality and more consistent production levels. We are all very excited to see how our plants do throughout the upcoming season"

  • Leamington, ON (May 7th, 2018) – The Greenhouse Education Center is a greenhouse on wheels – and it may be coming to a city near you! NatureFresh™ Farms is on the road again with the Greenhouse Education Center program, taking part in events at retail stores, schools, and fairs all summer long. A brand-new crew of passionate student leaders have also joined the ranks to spread the word about greenhouse grown produce and share why eating fresh every day is so important!

The NatureFresh™ Farms team created the Greenhouse Education Center in 2015 to show consumers exactly how they grow in their greenhouses. Many people don’t fully understand their food’s journey from the farm to their table, and this lack of knowledge can often lead to unhealthy eating choices. The NatureFresh™ Farms team recognized this disconnect, and the Greenhouse Education Center was born.
The Greenhouse Education Center is a 38-foot-long mobile greenhouse unit equipped with vibrant plants, innovative growing technology, and a busy Bumble Bee ecosystem. Visitors to the unit can physically touch the plants and see exactly how they are grown in NatureFresh™ Farms greenhouses. They can see the drippers, the ventilation system, the heating rails – everything! This behind-the-scenes look at greenhouse growing allows consumers to gain a greater understanding about how their food is grown and get enthusiastic about healthy eating.

A brand-new team of passionate students will also be travelling with the mobile greenhouse all summer long to answer questions about NatureFresh™ Farms, greenhouse growing, and all things fresh. This year’s students have backgrounds ranging from Business to Agriculture to Health Sciences, which means that they bring a diverse set of perspectives to the greenhouse farming industry. Although they come from different life experiences, they are all passionate about the future of fresh!

This year, the Greenhouse Education Center will be taking part in over 70 different events across eastern North America. The team will be visiting retail locations, schools, and fairs across Ontario and throughout states including Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The NatureFresh™ Farms team encourages all those interested in attending an event to visit their website for further details about dates and locations:

  • Leamington, ON (June 17th, 2018) – The Tomato Capital of Canada, Leamington, ON, hosted its 11th annual Greenhouse Vegetable Awards this past weekend at the Leamington Fair. Showcasing the best greenhouse-grown produce from leading North American growers, family-owned NatureFresh™ Farms was awarded many top accolades, including People’s and Kids’ Choice Awards for 2018’s Hottest Tomato, the Tomberry®.

On Saturday evening, NatureFresh™ Farms took home awards in the following categories:

    • People’s Choice Award for Hottest Tomato – NatureFresh™ Tomberry® Tomatoes
    • Kids’ Choice Award for Hottest Tomato - NatureFresh™ Tomberry® Tomatoes
    • Kids’ Choice Award for Coolest Cucumber – NatureFresh™ Mini Cucumbers
    • Kids’ Choice Award for Perfect Pepper – NatureFresh™ Yellow Bell Pepper

Matt Quiring, Executive Retail Sales Accounts Manager at NatureFresh™ Farms, was especially excited that NatureFresh™ took home the coveted Kids’ Choice Awards in the Tomato, Bell Pepper, and Cucumber categories: “The People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice Awards are such impactful awards to win because they have everything to do with the end consumer. They’re also incredibly important because children are the buyers of tomorrow – knowing that they choose NatureFresh™-grown products above every other label is a huge testament to what we do and what’s in store for the future.”

At the Awards, the Tomberry® Tomato was chosen by both adults and children as this year’s Hottest Tomato. Benny Teichroeb, a member of the Trial Development team at NatureFresh™ Farms, was confident after his experiences with the Tomberry® that it would perform well at the Awards this year: “The Tomberry® is definitely one of the most unique Tomatoes we have ever trialled in the Discovery Center. It performed beyond our expectations from the start, and due to its small size and sweet flavor, it tends to draw a lot of positive attention. People of all ages love the World’s Smallest Tomato, and we are very excited to now have it in our program full-time!”. The NatureFresh™ Farms team is looking forward to watching this little Tomato do big things within the Tomato category.

All funds raised from the Greenhouse Vegetable Awards go to R.E.A.C.H. International. This local charity has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to build clinics and schools, drill water wells, and sponsor and care for impoverished children in Uganda, Africa.

  • TOMZ® Tomberry® Tomato
Known as The World's Smallest Tomato, the TOMZ® Tomberry® is small in size but huge in flavor!...

  • The Tomberry® delivers in flavor, high quality, and versatility. With a sweet, balanced flavor and petit form, this unique variety adds a new level of excitement to food preparation and culinary styling. But for consumers, the most exciting part of the Tomberry® is its crisp bite and juicy, flavorful explosion when consumed – because of its small size, this is an unexpected (but very welcome) surprise. The Tomberry® is unquestionably the most unique Tomato variety currently on the market.
