  • Fort Valley, GA (February 14th, 2018) – Cooperation with Mother Nature for good weather this winter has spurned a fury of activity at the site of Pure Flavor®’s greenhouse project in Georgia. Ground leveling completed in late fall lead to a smooth start of construction of the company’s new 75-acre high tech greenhouse facility in Peach County.

    Over the course of the last few weeks once post holes were dug and back filled, Dutch greenhouse builder Havecon began erecting the main structure with full scale implementation now underway. From a timing standpoint, the project is on track for completion by late summer with the first crop of tomatoes & seedless cucumbers to be planted shortly thereafter.

    “Building a high-tech greenhouse in Georgia was part of our growth strategy to extend our reach across North America. Being strategically located in Peach County allows us in some instances to have same day & next day deliveries in the southeast region”, stated Matt Mastronardi, Executive Vice-President. Pure Flavor® researched more than 400 sites throughout North America before settling on Peach County, GA. The 75-acre greenhouse project broke ground in September 2017 and will be built in 3 phases of 25 acres. Phase 1 is expected to be completed in late Summer 2018.

    “Greenhouse tomatoes & seedless cucumbers grown in Georgia will help breathe new life in to the category. It will help our retail (& foodservice partners) in the region to have fresher product on store shelves while maintaining consistent quality and availability year-round. In the end, it is the consumer who will benefit from great product grown in the state of Georgia”, said Mastronardi.

    “We are connecting our customers with the project in every way possible with frequent updates via social media, the photo gallery, and video stories shot by drone”, said Chris Veillon, Chief Marketing Officer. A custom website was built just before the groundbreaking in September 2017 to announce the project, the page now serves as the central resource for everything to do with the Georgia project. “A connected customer is an informed customer, we can’t wait to get our first plants in the greenhouse later this summer”, commented Veillon.  Pure Flavor® expects the first crops to be picked in early Fall 2018.

  • Leamington, ON (June 5th, 2018) – With the school year due to wrap up in just a few short weeks, organizers of the annual PureKids Triathlon Series powered by Subway® are looking forward to record registrations this summer with the first race kicking off this Saturday, June 9th in Leamington.

    Taking place over the course of the summer on June 9 (Leamington), June 24 (Windsor), and August 11 (Tecumseh), the PureKids Triathlon Series powered by Subway expects to draw kids from all over southwestern Ontario to come and take part in the various races. As a combination of a run, bike, and swim events, lengths and distances for each aspect of the race will vary depending on age category. All event info for each race date can be found on the events website with all registrations taking place online.

    “Our three-part kids triathlon series highlights Hospices support in getting children involved in sports” said John McKibbon, Event Organizer. “Pure Flavor® along with Adventure Bay and UNIFOR Local 200 as event sponsors, make it possible for kids from various communities & regions to participate in events such as ours. For the past 30 years all of our fundraising efforts have gone to support such things as the Lego Group; Kids Kicking Cancer; Camp for Kids who’s loved one is a Hospice patient and Guitar for Kids at the Hospice”, stated McKibbon.

    Kids ages 3-13 take part in a variety of running, swimming, and biking events as part of the triathlon series. Funds raised through registration and private donations go directly to support The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc. Participants receive water bottles, event t-shirts, and cinch bags at all events including Pure Flavor®’s Mini Munchie Veggie Snack Packs at the completion of each race. Kids who participate in all 3 races this summer will all receive Fitbit® Fitness Trackers for completing the series.

    “Kids learn positive life lessons through sports.  They learn the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, respect for authority and rules, and how to win with class and lose with dignity” said Carol Derbyshire, Executive Director, The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc.

    Thanks to the PureKids Triathlon Series continued financial support, Hospice continues to support, educate and empower those who are affected by or are caring for a person with a life-altering diagnosis, in order to achieve their desired quality of life.  Funds raised through the PureKids Triathlon Series will go to children’s programs and services.

    “Leamington has always been a hot bed for triathletes”, stated Dave Campbell, Organizer, Leamington Triathlon. “We want to invest in the kids to keep this going. We believe in health & fitness for kids, that’s why we keep hosting these events year after year”, said Campbell.

    Hundreds of kids ages 3-13 take part each year in the PureKids Triathlon Series each year that spans across the greater Leamington-Windsor-Tecumseh region.

    “Our support for this event series is deeply rooted with history as the owners of Pure Flavor® took part in events like this when they were kids”, commented Chris Veillon, Chief Marketing Officer. This in turn is setting up opportunities to connect with retail & foodservice partners at the United Fresh Trade Show & Convention in Chicago, June 26-27.

    “Our Georgia greenhouse project is moving along swiftly with the first phase of 25 acres scheduled to be completed late this summer”, said Moracci. The company announced in late 2017 that the expansion to Fort Valley, GA would be a 3-phased approach with a total of 75 acres of high tech greenhouses being built over a 5-year period. “By growing year-round in the southeast, it will allow us to reduce food miles to our customers while consumers get to enjoy fresher product on the shelves”, add Moracci.
