OISTAT—International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians was founded in 1968 as a cooperative, global, non-governmental organization. OISTAT serves those who facilitate and create design for live performance, including practitioners, researchers, students, and associated partners.
OISTAT has 6 commissions; they are Architecture, Education, Performance Design, Publication & Communication, Research and Technology. The Headquarters of OISTAT relocated to Taipei in 2006.
Mission of OISTAT
-Generates, promotes, and maintains a global network of specialist practitioners, educators, and researchers. The OISTAT network cooperates to shape and imagine elements, events, and environments for the live performing arts, as well as to challenge existing standards and elements.
-Enables the ongoing exchange of knowledge through sharing innovation, encouraging experimentation, and promoting international collaboration in the development of live performance and its technologies and spaces.
-Promotes the participation of individuals, alliances, and institutions as well as the formation of OISTAT centers in all regions of the world.

Dubbed ‘one of the most important works on scene design ever published.’The first volume is World Scenography 1975-1990 (2012), for which editors Eric Fielding and Peter Mckinnon received USITT’s Golden Pen Award in 2014. Newly published is the World Scenography 1990-2005, involving more than 100 global contributors, featuring more than 400 theatre designs from 55 countries, is available online.
