Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is a magnificent new, performing arts Academy situated in the cultural emirate of Sharjah, UAE.
Born from the progressive vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, SPAA is a world-class facility galvanising communities, showcasing local and international creative talent, and leading the way in higher education for professional performing and production arts.
SPAA currently offers the following four-year, full time Bachelor programmes:
- BA Production Arts
- BA Acting
- BA Musical Theatre
Tasked with overseeing this first-of-its-kind academy is Executive Director, Peter Barlow FRSA, who has been teaching and training actors, performers, and theatre technicians for more than 30 years.
“Our outstanding new academy is a place that will nurture the skills of talented individuals and pave the way for their future on and off the world stage,” explains Peter. “We have set out to ensure the most innovative teaching techniques create Olympians of the performing arts world. Learning in performing arts expands one’s mind and capabilities, and hopefully, if you are prepared to work for it, propels you into the world of professional performing arts.”
SPAA will see stage managers, performers and design & theatre technicians hone their craft while receiving global qualifications in a world-class facility. Some of the very best educators, directors, choreographers, designers, stage managers and theatre technicians from around the world have been employed to ensure every student, who is prepared to work for it, has the best chance of continuous and successful work in professional performing and production arts.
Sharjah Performing Arts Academy offers a home for students to foster their talents and shape their future, while using the very best facilities and equipment for performing arts education and training. Twelve large studios for dance, voice and acting classes; 12 dedicated studios for singing and sound recording; an extensive lending and reference library; a 432-seat theatre; a 126-seat studio theatre; a main stage rehearsal studio and theatre; green screen TV studio; gymnasium; costume and design spaces; carpentry and set building workshops, alongside offices, cafes, large breakout areas for student study, and an exhibition gallery.
