The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is currently accepting applications for internships in our Summer Professional Training Program, as well as for certain seasonal technical staff positions.
Currently in our 57th season, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) has earned a reputation for being one of the nation’s best classic theatre companies. In addition to the artistic work on our Main Stage and Outdoor Stage, we place an equal focus on education and training. The company remains steadfast in its mission to train the classical theatre artists of tomorrow, and was named one of the "top 8 summer internships in the country" by Backstage.com in 2016. STNJ is a true teaching theatre, and we take that responsibility and privilege very seriously. In the time that interns spend with us, we provide them with tools and skills that will help them on their path forward, and aid them in creating their own ongoing, learning process; a perfect bridge from university training to professional experience. Interns will learn to strive for and often struggle for excellence, and to relish the exuberance that comes from achieving it.
From May through August, Madison, New Jersey, transforms into a bustling and exciting theatre community as more than 300 actors, directors, designers, technicians and students, along with thousands of audience members congregate at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. It is an idyllic setting for the exceptional artistic and educational work of The Shakespeare Theatre.
Training program participants are involved in every phase of the Main Stage and Outdoor Stage productions each summer, not to mention the numerous late-night projects produced by members of the training program. Internships are offered in over 20 different technical, administrative, education, and artistic areas as vital precursors to professional work and status.
