The National Federation of the Blind of New Jersey (NFBNJ) is the statewide affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind, the largest organization of blind people in the United States. NFBNJ works to improve the lives of blind and low-vision residents across New Jersey through advocacy, education, empowerment, and community support. Advocacy & Civil Rights NFBNJ works to protect and advance the rights of blind individuals by advocating for equal access to education, employment, transportation, voting, technology, and public spaces. Members engage with legislators and community leaders to promote accessibility and inclusion. Education, Training & Technology The organization shares practical tools and training that support independence, including information on assistive technology, Braille literacy, nonvisual skills, and strategies for success in school, work, and daily life. Community & Support NFBNJ connects blind individuals, families, and professionals through local chapters, peer mentoring, and community events. Members share experiences, resources, and encouragement to help one another live independently and confidently. Youth & Scholarships NFBNJ promotes opportunities for blind students through leadership programs and the National Federation of the Blind scholarship program, encouraging higher education, career success, and self-advocacy. Public Education & Outreach Through outreach events, presentations, and community partnerships, NFBNJ educates the public about blindness and challenges misconceptions, demonstrating that blindness is not the characteristic that defines a person’s potential. Mission in Action At events like the Abilities Expo, NFBNJ provides information, answers questions, and connects attendees with resources that empower blind individuals to live the lives they want. If you want, I can also shorten it, make it more conversational for a handout, or create a 1–2 sentence booth version.
