Profile

Carla Lewis has 31 years of Federal service, including 10 years at the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) where she serves as the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) for the Office of Audit Services (OAS). Carla provides executive leadership to OIG’s mission of protecting the integrity of HHS programs and the health and welfare of beneficiaries. Carla manages OIG’s portfolio of audits of HHS public health and human services programs, including grants and contracts, encompassing billions of dollars and serving some of the most vulnerable populations. During her 10 years serving HHS OIG, Carla has been called upon to lead some of OIG’s most high-profile, sensitive, and complex work. In her role as AIG, Carla oversees 10 HHS operating divisions covering about $300 billion in grant dollars and $30 billion in contract dollars awarded annually. In addition, Carla oversees the annual financial statement audits of HHS and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Single Audit oversight function for more than 3,000 HHS award recipients that are required to undergo an annual Single Audit.
