  • Remember strawberries from Grandma’s garden? The Star Group’s “Juliets” aim to be the best berry you’ve tasted since then. Grown in state-of-the-art greenhouses in Delta, BC, Juliets are optimized for flavour, rather than transportability. Launching spring, 2022.

In addition to operating CEA facilities across Western Canada, The Star Group recently added significant greenhouse acreage in Delta, B.C., fully dedicated to the goal of growing Canada’s best-tasting strawberry.

The high-tech and fully-lit facility, overseen by a grower team with deep experience in growing berries under glass, is producing strawberries that are super sweet, balanced by a hint of tartness, with a deep red colour throughout.

These “Juliets” strawberries will be marketed under the Just Picked brand, and shipments to Canadian and American retailers have already begun.

  • Just add eggs! The Star Group’s “Inspired” breakfast kits make for easy omelettes, any time of day. Unique, patented packaging allows dairy, meat and fresh value-added produce items to travel together, providing an (almost) all-in-one meal solution.

The Just Prepped omelette kits start from an essential foundation in packaging: advancements in multi-ingredient packaging by The Star Group allow ingredients with varying degrees of humidity and optimum storage conditions to remain separated, keeping juicy ingredients juicy and crunchy ingredients crunchy until they’re ready to eat.

These omelette kits combine meat, dairy, fresh veggies and other ingredients into a hex pack for an (almost) all-in-one breakfast solution and will launch with three distinct recipes. Just add eggs!

  • Reducing single-use plastics is of critical importance to all of us as global citizens. By supporting the research of Queens University’s Open Plastic initiative, The Star Group is helping leading scientists transform plastic waste into high-value, reusable materials.

The Open Plastic initiative, which includes five distinct research streams, dozens of academics and several industry partners, has the stated goal of reaching zero plastic waste in Canada by 2030.

The initiative is focussed on using microbes and enzymes to “valorize” used plastics – that is, to turn waste plastic into high-value material for reuse, thereby providing a meaningful economic incentive for reuse that is lacking in legacy recycling systems.

At The Star Group, we believe this line of research is perhaps the most viable path to the wide-scale reduction of single-use plastics, which is why we are serving not only as an industry/financial partner, but have also committed senior Star Group team members to actively participate in the project.

We are proud to support leading Canadian academics as they work to find a solution to plastic waste!
