Welcome to the AAO: Inspiring Excellence in Eyecare

The American Academy of Optometry provides exceptional education, supports innovative research, and disseminates knowledge to advance optometric practice and improve patient care. The Academy also disseminates knowledge through Optometry & Vision Science, the official journal of the Academy.

Fellows of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) include optometrists in professional practice, scientists, educators, librarians, administrators, and editors who have accredited themselves to optometry by their service. In qualifying for and maintaining fellowship, individuals are evaluated against the highest standards of professional competence. The letters "FAAO" after an optometrist's, scientist's or other qualified person's name signify to colleagues and patients that rigorous qualifications for fellowship have been met.

Application fees are waived for those who submit the FAAO Interest Form during Academy 2020 At Home. That’s a savings of $60!

Membership is also available to students, full time graduate students in the vision sciences and residents. Email membership@aaoptom.org with any questions you may have.
