The University of Massachusetts Amherst is the flagship campus of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, with an enrollment of over 28,000 students. The Department of Music and Dance enrolls 210 undergraduate students and 71 graduate students. We are an accredited, institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. We offer the Bachelor of Arts; Bachelor of Music in Jazz, Music Education, History, Performance, or Theory/Composition; Master of Music in Jazz, Music Education, Musicology, Performance, or Accompanying; and the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Theory or Music Education. Performances are presented in the 2,000-seat Concert Hall, the 200-seat Bezanson Recital Hall, and the 700-seat Bowker Auditorium. UMass Amherst is part of the Five Colleges system. Our students can take courses at Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith College for no extra fee. The campuses are linked by a free bus system.
