IGEB
The International Society for the Research and Promotion of Wind Music
The IGEB (Internationale Gesellschaft zur Erforschung und Förderung der Blasmusik) was founded in 1974 at the first scientific congress for the exploration of wind music at the Conservatory for Music and the Performing Arts (presently the University for Music and the Performing Arts) in Graz, Austria. As early as 1966 a small circle of wind-music researchers, performers and amateurs met near Stuttgart, Germany to establish a "Committee for the Investigation of Wind Music," the result being IGEB.
The aim of the Society is the exploration of all aspects of wind music. It holds biennial conferences for the exchange of ideas and knowledge, sponsors the Fritz Thelen International Wind Research Competition, and disseminates a number of publications, including the Alta Musica series. Musicologists, conductors and amateurs comprise the 400+ members from 30+ countries.
The most recent conference of the IGEB was held in Oberwölz, Austria in July, 2016.
