Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance (SMTD) is a leading center of performing arts education in southeast Michigan, offering outstanding educational and performance opportunities to undergraduate, graduate students, and community members. SMTD students learn and grow as musicians, actors, dancers, designers, arts educators and researchers in a collaborative and supportive environment.

The Department of Music offers a comprehensive education in music for undergraduate and graduate students. The opportunity to work with internationally and nationally renowned faculty creates a vibrant atmosphere for musical and intellectual growth. Our students also learn from one another, forming a supportive musical community. • Jennifer Oliverio, Trumpet, and the Athena Brass Band (Dec 09, 2021)

  Dr. Jennifer Fox Oliverio, assistant professor of music and applied instructor of trumpet at Oakland University, will be performing at the 75th Annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, which will take place from Dec. 14-18 in Chicago, Ill.

   

  This year’s conference is set to be the largest yet with more than 18,000 attendees from all 50 states and more than 40 countries, and will combine clinics, rehearsal labs, reading sessions, and world class performances.

   

  “I’m thrilled to be performing at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic with the Athena Brass Band, named after the Greek goddess of wisdom,” Oliverio said. “This all-female ensemble features musicians and educators from top military bands, symphonies, and universities from across the United States.”

   

  The Athena Brass Band will take the stage at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16. Their program will include works by Nicole Piunno, Lucy Pankhurst, and Peter Graham to name a few.
