At the University of Delaware School of Music (Newark), we recognize that preparing students for the rapidly evolving job market is paramount to success. We continue our robust offerings, while working to implement new, progressive tracks of study that leverage the technology-driven music industry, cultural awareness, and inclusive excellence. Offering Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Music degrees, in performance, composition, conducting, and teaching (including public school teaching certification for undergraduates) and opportunities for non-majors.

Application deadline is January 15 for funding consideration. Auditions undergraduate and graduate applicants are January 25-28, 2023

  • The University of Delaware invites highly qualified student musicians seeking a Masters of Music to apply for a generously funded Fellowship in Woodwind Quintet for Fall 2023. Five individual fellowships are available for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. Fellowship duties are to the Woodwind Quintet, which rehearses, receives coaching, performs, and tours at the regional level, while learning to operate a small business model professional chamber group.

    Awards

    Fellowship includes generous tuition remission and competitive stipend.

    • Master class opportunities with internationally acclaimed guest artists and ensembles

  • The University of Delaware is now accepting applications for the graduate string quartet fellowship. This fully funded opportunity is for pre-formed string quartets who do not already hold a Masters of Music degree in Performance. The quartet that is selected will work closely with the Calidore String Quartet. For more on how to apply, visit the Graduate Music Admission website.   • The University of Delaware is now accepting applications for two Graduate Percussion Group two-year fellowships beginning Fall 2023.  Fellows will join members of the existing Graduate Percussion Group for all rehearsals, coaching sessions, on campus and outreach performances, and audio/video recording projects in a self-sustaining ensemble that straddles the line between collegiate and professional performing experiences. In addition, they will be mentored on group management, marketing, and booking performances at the local, regional, and national level. 

    The Graduate Percussion Group is coached and mentored by UD faculty artists Gene Koshinski and Tim Broscious of the Quey Percussion Duo.

  • The University of Delaware School of Music is now accepting applications for Graduate Marching Band Assistantship for Percussion for Fall 2023. 

     

    Duties include: assisting the directors with all teaching and administrative aspects of the Fightin’ Blue Hen Marching Band, Basketball Pep Band, and Symphonic Band. Additional responsibilities such as music arranging and show design are contingent upon the applicant’s qualifications. 


    The 300-member University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hen Marching Band focuses on being a visually innovative musical performance ensemble. Our halftime productions are corps-style, incorporating contemporary show design as well as entertainment value.

    Assistantship
    Recipients of the Marching Band Assistantship will receive a stipend of $22,000 over nine months plus 100% tuition assistance. Assistantships may be renewed for a second year upon faculty approval. Appointments for the Marching Band Assistantship begin on August 14, 2023, and are contingent upon admission to the University and acceptance of contract.


    Master of Music
    The University of Delaware offers a Master of Music degree, with concentrations in Performance, Teaching (directed toward music educators), Conducting (Wind Band, Orchestra, and Choral), and Composition. 

    Application Procedure
    To be considered for graduate funding, application for admission to the University of Delaware must be submitted online by January 15, 2023. The application will require a music audition (see audition requirements), in addition to three letters of recommendation. One of the three letters must be from an undergraduate college marching band director, and another must be from an academic professor. Applicants under consideration for the assistantship will be contacted for an interview with Professor James P. Ancona.
