Grade 4, Concert Band, a cross-curriculum journey of the James Webb Telescope. Integration of up-to-date space discovery by the James Webb Telescope and music. Performer-focused programmatic music. *New for 2022....

  • A new take on music for concert band! Suspended in a Sunbeam is a grade 4 work inspired by the journey and exploration of the James Webb Telescope which launched December 25, 2021. With integrated "Event Notes" into every part, performers and audience members alike can enjoy the present-day discoveries in a sequence of programmatic events. The work is accompanied by a video in slide show/move forward format (no click track required) which features the actual take-off of the Telescope from Europe's Spaceport located near Kourou, French Guiana. Follow James Webb, as it travels to the Legrange 2 point with an animated unfolding sequence created by NASA. The heart of the work explores the "Trappist - 1 System," featuring an ice planet, an exoplanet much like Earth, and a lava planet. Get to know Carl Sagan in this cross-curriculum work using Sagan's own quotes and astrophysics vocabulary and concepts that keep students emotionally and intellectually engaged. *Note: NASA has just started to release "Trappist-1" data recently discovered by James Webb.
