 Press Releases

  • BarnTools, the creator of the wireless BarnTalk barn alarm, has introduced a new real-time feed monitoring solution to their growing suite of wireless sensors. The BinTalk wireless feed bin sensor will provide swine and poultry growers with real-time feed insights to help streamline their feed management and prevent feed outages before they happen.

“BarnTools has been working with a team of world-class engineers, product developers, and industry experts to deliver a feed monitoring solution to the poultry and swine industry,” said Michael Hansen, CEO and Co-Founder of BarnTools. “We are excited to launch a reliable, easy-to-use feed sensor that will provide accurate, real-time insights to growers, producers, and integrators across the industry so they can optimize their production.”

With the BinTalk feed bin sensor, growers can monitor the amount of feed inside their bins 24/7 on their smartphone. BinTalk is installed on the top of the feed bin using patented clip-on mounting and measures feed volume using HD camera technology. Compared to the bin scales, BinTalk is >96% accurate in measuring feed volume.

With many existing feed monitoring products, growers are required to drill holes in their bins to install them. “We wanted BinTalk to take 10 minutes to install and not require you to compromise the integrity of the bin from drilling holes or creating a water leak path,” said BarnTools COO Jim Ryken, who helped spearhead the development of BinTalk.

Growers can pre-order BinTalk sensors anytime, and orders will get shipped out to customers starting in May 2023. To learn more about BinTalk, click here or contact BarnTools at 515-220-2727.

  • BarnTalk Gateway
The Gateway serves as the primary means of monitoring your sites power. The Gateway connects to the strongest local cell tower, regardless of carrier, to send alarms via push notification, SMS text message or phone call....

  • How it fits into the alarm platform:

The Gateway is the brains of the BarnTalk platform.

The Gateway can be plugged into a standard 110V outlet and serves as the primary means of monitoring power. For best results, the Gateway should be plugged into the same power source as the ventilation controller. The Gateway is also available with a UL Certified 5V External Power Supply for use in Canada. Each Gateway also comes equipped with two internal Dry Contact Circuits, which are commonly used to connect the Gateway to additional power sources and sub-panels, as well as controllers, generators, auger motors, water pressure switches, and more. Once the Gateway is plugged into power, it finds and connects to the strongest local cell tower, regardless of carrier, to send alarms via push notification, SMS text message or phone call based on user’s preferences. In addition to the built-in cellular connectivity, the Gateway also creates a local wireless LoRa network, which can extend across building and through walls to connect up to 24 wireless sensors to each Gateway within a range of ~700 ft. On multi-barn sites, we typically recommend one Gateway for every two buildings. The Gateway and sensors can typically be installed in 30 minutes.
